How to save money on train tickets
The current train ticketing system isn’t the best. Play the system and you can save big money on your rail tickets. There are some hidden, but simple, gems:
Buy your cheap rail tickets 12 weeks early. Network Rail must set their timetable 12 weeks in advance, as soon as this is available the train operators generally release their cheap advance rail tickets.
Buy last minute rail tickets. The night before you’re due to travel, you can still find advance tickets available, which can often be a massive saving against the on-the-day prices.
Buy a railcard. If you’re a regular traveller, and spend over £78 in a year, a railcard will help you cut costs. They are available for 16-25 year olds, seniors and disabled travellers. There is also a Family & Friends railcard available.
Lastly, check our website for the latest train ticket news. The main operators often promote cheap rail tickets and we’ll be here to keep you up to date as and when those cheap promotions become available.
